Madrid launched its bid to host the Olympic Games in 2020 on Monday unveiling a logo that immediately sparked controversy and left many Spaniards confused.
Some people say it looks "like a display of flip-flops for the beach" another say it resembles a "colourful array of Bishops' mitres". But most questioned whether Madrid was bidding for the "2020" Olympic Games or the "20020".
The logo was designed by Luis Peiret, 22, a graphic arts student from Zaragoza and chosen in a competition by the Spanish Olympic Committee.
Reports said he had intended the script to say M20 but when officials modified the logo they trimmed the bottom of the design leading to the visual confusion.
Bizarrely even the colours used to represent the Olympic Rings were not faithful to the original with pink being chosen to replace black, the colour meant to symbolise the African continent.

In my opinion the original logo is better than the new, but the modified one is more colourfull and vivid. This makes people to pay more attention to it. I think that the new logo looks like flip-flops, it´s a bit odd.

I think that this logo is better than the original, because the colour are more warm than the original colour, but in the first logo looks 'M 20' and the second looks '20020'.

Also in the new logo you can see Madríd with accents.
The only thing I like most of the new logo are the colors.

I don't like this logo because seems that puts 20020 instead of 2020. Also say that is made of form that resembles to ''La Puerta de Alcalá'' but it doesn't seem. I like more Madrid 2016's logo.

I do not understand the meaning of the logo. Now, people do not appreciate these things, the logo last year was also very ugly. I think other people should do that, because thoose who made the logo have no imagination for these things ...
ResponderEliminarI prefer the original logo. In this doesn't it distinguished "m20" and in the original is clearly seeable. Also, this logo is very simple and ugly, and seems out that puts "20020" but Madrid aims at the Olympic Games of 2020.

ResponderEliminarI tink that the logo needs the black color, because black simbolizes Africa. I like the second logo because the colors of it are more bautifull and liviest tha te original logo. It isn't the most bautifull logo that I have seen, but is nicer that the Olimpic's London logo. I don't understand very well the meaning of this logo, I think that on themletters of this logo is writter M(of Madrid's city) and the year 2020( it is the year of the Olimpic).

The logo isn't bad but is more beautiful the original logo. This logo looks like flip-flops!! It is a bit tacky. I don't understand why the logo says "20020". I prefer the original logo.

ResponderEliminarI don't like the original logo, it's horrible¡. The new logo is brigher and you can see better all the colours.Also, the original logo, in my opinion , is worse designed. Now , the work has been better.

I think that the original logo is better than this. In the original logo we can see clearly ''M20'', and in this logo I see ''20020''. Anyway, the colours of this logo are better, because in my opinion, this colours are more beatifull. Even so, I don't like neither, and I think that we can design one logo more interesting.

ResponderEliminarin all this cases i am really pesimistic. I don´t think that Madrid is going to be the winner and have th olympics games in Madrid, so the logo doesn´t matter.
But if I have to choose i choose the one wich is in the top of the page, I think it have more style.
I think it is a bit weird and it doesn't really symbolyse the spirit of the olympic games. Even though I think that the logo is not all that matters it should have better represented the essence of such an important event. And apart from that, I still don't understand why 20020 and not 2020.
