Marc and Pau Gasol battled for the first brotherly
All-Star tip-off

YORK -- Pau and Marc Gasol fulfilled the dreams of
basketball-loving brothers all over the world on Sunday night by becoming the
first brothers ever to start against each other in the All-Star Game. After it
was over, Pau acknowledged how much the experience meant to the Gasol family.
"It
was a great feeling," Pau said. "Very unique, very special. It's
something that has never happened, so I think it's pretty remarkable that we
have been the first ones to actually do it. I'm very proud. It was an
incredible experience to be able to share this time of moment with your
brother."
The
eyes of the basketball world were on the Gasols all weekend but especially on
Sunday when the opening tip went up at Madison Square Garden, a tip won by Pau.
"The emotions were
overflowing," Pau said. "It was a fun game, it was a special game for
us. It was exciting. We were looking forward to it. It's hard to believe that
it happened. We just both went out there and competed and played basketball,
which we know how to do, so it was fun."
Marc echoed his brother's sentiments.
"Just seeing so many people happy
and so many people supporting us," Marc told reporters. "My daughter
came for the first time to a game. To me, that was really special. I know you
guys probably don't care, but that made it even more special, if
possible."
Pau, who finished with more points and
rebounds (10 and 12) than Marc (six and 10) isn't sure exactly what kind of
imprint the brothers' achievement will have on the game, but he is proud of the
imprint he and Marc left on New York City this weekend.
"I don't know what kind of impact
we're going to have or [the accomplishment] is going to have," Pau said.
"It definitely felt great. It was exceptional, an incredible moment to
share. I think this is a great, hopefully inspiring, thing, also for brothers
that [think], 'Hey, we can make it, too, or we can have a successful career,'
whether it's in the [basketball] profession or other professions. It's
exciting. It's exciting to be able to go through this experience at this
level."
COMMENTS
I think that this match is very important for basketball and for Spanish sport because a lot of people in all over the world see the All-Star´s games. In addition, the participation of two Spanish starts is going to cheer children to play sports because they are the proof that if you want something and work hard, you can get fulfill your dream. In my opinion it was fantastic because they shared the emotion and the hard work in this match. They are brothers and last Sunday they had to compete but also they enjoyed. In my opininion that was an exciting success in Marc and Pau's lifes, because not many players can reach the All Star Game, so they must be very proud of themselves. And It's even more special, because they are the first brothers that had made that tip-off against each other in all basketball's history. and I like Marc's words about the moment, because he said that the tip-off was more special because his sister went to the match.

I think that it’s a very important event for Spanish basketball but also it’s very important for basketball fans because Pau and Marc are two of the best player in the world and this match is the reward for their hard work during the last years in the NBA. I think that this event will also help to promote the practice of basketball in Spain. It’s a dream for all the basketball players to play the All Star game and the Gasol´s brothers have just got it. Although Gasol´s brothers didn’t play a very good match it’s not important, this moment will be remembered for years.

ResponderEliminarIn my opinion, the All Star match was a fantatic success for Gasol's brothers because they were the first brothers that played in an All Star match. It was a very important match not only for Pau and Marc, also for all Spanish people who were proud of them. I think that this match was a reward for all his career in the NBA. Of course, I undestand why the were very happy and proud of themselves because they have entered in history with this opening tip, which wasn't spectacular, but it'll be remembered for years.

Since they were children, they wanted to reach the top, and they get it ! All the Spanish are very happy with them too. Pau and Marc have their dreams come true. I reckon that is an important event for the Spanish sport. It's an honor for the family and a challange of overcoming to be in the starting lineup. It's very difficult to play on the NBA but it's more difficult to be on the All Start. For me the the best of both it's the young brother, Marc, who is more regular now. I have to admit that Pau has made very good games but now is not the one who scored 46 points on a game.

I think that It was a beautiful match for Marc and Pau, they deserved stay in All-Stars games because they worked hard all the season. When I heard on TV I was very happy for them. I think that it is a good fact for Pau and Marc and for Spanish sport. All Spanish should be proud for the brothers and we should give more importance to the Spanish basketball.

The fact that these two brothers have competed againist each other makes the game more exciting. They are sibilings, but last Sunday were rivals without forgetting who they were and why they were there. Just because of this, I think this was one of the best games of the last years.

They are the best basketball players in Spain and one of the best in the world. I think that for Marc it was a special match because his daughter was in the match for the first time. I reckon they've given a fantastic example of what sport's really about. There was rivalry and emotions between them to but all in a friendly way and in no moment were there any kind of inconveniences - because let's face it, playing against your sibling in a worldwide-famous basketball match must be quite adrenalin-full! Imagine all the Sunday meals after that with your brother reminding you that he beat you with the whole USA watching - and plus all your family was watching too. However that match must have been very exciting for them and surely it was a unique moment of their lifes. The fact that they told the media how much all the love and support form the spectators and family meant to them makes the whole atmosphere very friendly and, as said before, I do think they've made a great job in insisting on how important and special this was to them, because the fun and the enjoyment is what sport's really about.

They are brothers and adults and they were opponents, so they tried to win the match.
It was an epic moment for NBA and Spanish Basketball because Pau and Marc have only been in that situation.
Pau held the ball but Marc's team won. The result is less important than the moment and I think that any person would like to have a similar moment whith his brother or sister.
We should be proud about them.
